Chewacla State Park

124 Shell Toomer Parkway

Chewacla State Park's 696 scenic acres offer plenty of rest, relaxation and recreation, just a short drive from the Auburn-Opelika area. Facilities include a 26-acre lake, swimming area, playground, a modern campground, picnic areas with tables, grills and shelters, cabins, hiking and mountain biking trails. Lake Chewacla is perfect for reeling in bream, bass, crappie and catfish or taking a dip off the beach area. No luck in the lake, then try one of the park’s two creeks. There is no boat ramp on the lake, but visitors are allowed to bring their own small non-motorized watercraft such as canoes or kayaks if they can be hand-launched from the bank.

Glorified Dog Park!!!!! Spent the weekend with my family. Rules stated that animals were to remain on leashes which wasn’t the case. Dogs are everywhere and swimming in the beach area. There are some nice scenic areas. Which was the only nice side to the trip. Very loud and not much privacy, camp sites are very close together. Decent bath house. Overall trip wasn’t at all what we expected. Left a day early and don’t plan to return.

Great park to explore, especially if your in the Auburn, Alabama or Columbus, Georgia area. The water seemed to be pretty low when we were there so don’t expect the “falls” to look like all of the pictures every time. Trails were pretty easy for our 5 year old with a couple opportunities for him to get in the water. Dog friendly also. Plenty of rocks to climb on. Watch out for the wildlife! Visited in early September. Started out cool but could feel the temperature change when we were in the sun. Plenty of shade to sit under and relax.

A smaller park, which means it's extra quiet and relaxing. There are tons of great bike trails if you like mountain biking. The campsites are level, and they have both thirty and fifty amp hookups. There is also a nice lake for kayaking or swimming, complete with a diving board. All in all, we were very impressed with this park!

Wonderful park. Beautiful trails. Good mix of open mountain, marshy, and dryland trails. There's a lake to swim, kayak, and canoe at. RV parking and cabins to rent. Trail signs can be slightly confusing but you're in range of phone service throughout.
