Cadillac Mountain South Ridge Trail

Cadillac Mountain South Ridge Trail
Cadillac Mountain Road

Drive to the top or take a challenging hike up Cadillac Mountain, the tallest point both in Acadia and along the Atlantic Coast. Above tree-line, you’ll get expansive views of coastal Maine. Most visitors drive to the summit, then get out and circumnavigate the peak on a short .3-mile hiking loop. But trekking up is an option too. Try the scenic trail that starts at the Blackwoods Campground for a 7.5-mile round-trip. You’ll gain 1,530 feet as you climb up the South Ridge Trail, staying away from the busy road for the majority of the hike. Stop at the Featherbed, a small glacial pond, for a peaceful snack before joining the crowds on the summit.
