About the Somers Land Trust

The Somers Land Trust (SLT) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to preserving open space in the town of Somers. Together with the Westchester Land Trust, the SLT holds a number of conservations easements throughout Somers. In addition, we promote environmentally sensitive planning and helped devise the town survey soliciting public input for the Somers Master Plan.

Perhaps the most visible achievement of the SLT is the Angle Fly Preserve. The SLT helped bring the 2000 open space funding referendum to voters whose approval enabled the purchase of Angle Fly Preserve. The SLT also assisted with the purchase of this 654 acre property in 2006 and founded the Friends of Angle Fly Preserve, a group of volunteers dedicated to protecting the natural beauty of the land for public enjoyment.

The SLT maintains contacts with a number of local and national organizations such as the Westchester Land Trust, the Trust for Public Land, Mianus River Gorge, the Nature Conservancy, and Teatown Lake Reservation. These partnerships bring expertise on a range of issues to the town of Somers. Together with these organizations, the SLT has developed the a comprehensive Angle Fly Preserve management plan. In addition, SLT has collaborated with these and other partners to obtain grants for biodiversity assessments, public programs, trails construction, and other projects in the Angle Fly Preserve.

My dog loves it here, the streams are perfect for him to jump in at certain points. Just always beware of hunters, we almost lost our puppy to one, so bright colors and as much noise as you can, just to warn them. They are working on keeping the dear population down there at the moment from the city.

Great place for a hike, run and birding walk. Trails join with abutting NYSDEC land with more trails. Trails need better management on Somers Land Trust land. Hopefully after the maintenance house is complete SLT gets to work on clearing some of the better trails where I've found most of my wildlife sightings.

Old abandoned housing development that went bankrupt in the 60s. You can still go through all of them somewhat safely.
